What Would Strait Drink? - Cowboys and Indians

Toast National Tequila Day on July 24 with King-worthy Código cocktails.

If there’s a tequila that’s synonymous with George Strait, it’s Código 1530. He loves it so much, in fact, that he’s an investor and co-founder and sings a country homage to it.

The limited edition añejo is a private recipe refined over generations by an artisan distilling family in Amatitán, Mexico. Strait discovered the premium tequila over his many years of vacationing in Mexico. For generations, it was a private recipe known to only a select group of Mexico’s most respected families and finest jimadors, and the prized tequila remained private and available only south of the border.

Now it’s available in all 50 states and 25 countries.

The name Código refers to the codes and customs that govern the making of tequila; the year 1530 is when the tequila’s home city of Amatitán was founded. The brand’s five tequila expressions — blanco, rosa, reposado, añejo, and “origen” (its extra-añejo) — are sugar- and additive-free and aged in French oak barrels that were previously filled with award-winning Napa Valley cabernet.

We think the rosa, with its slight floral notes, might be our summertime favorite. But any Código will deliver in a kingly fashion. You can do shots Strait-up, or mix, muddle, and shake into cocktails.

There’s so much to explore beyond the time-honored favorite margarita. Whether you’re toasting National Tequila Day on July 24 or just putting on some King George at home whenever you have a hankering for tequila, these cocktails will do the trick.
