Sustainable Connections is hosting a month long celebration in August to explore and enjoy the bounty of local food with an annual Eat Local Monthcelebration. Each week, the community is invited to celebrate four industries of our region’s local food system: farmers, restaurants, markets, and seafood producers.
Farm Week: August 1–8
Whatcom County Virtual Farm Tour
When: August 6, 6pm
Cost: Free (registration required)
VIP pass: $15 donation with exclusive freebies and offers at farms featured in August.
Description: Meet your farmers, and learn how to GET A TASTE! Join us for our keynote event, a virtual Whatcom County Farm Tour, right from the comfort of your own home, followed by a conversation with local farmers answering questions from the community, and sharing their stories, struggles, and joys of farming.

Farm Stand Loop
When: August-September
Cost: Free
Description: Opportunities for exploring farm-fresh flavors and experiences will be provided with a Local Farm Stand Loop — a chance to get out of the house, take a short drive using a guide to farms that will be open to the public during the months of August and September with u-pick, farm stands, and pop-up markets — a much needed escape with some fresh air and fresh flavors.

Restaurant Week: August 9–15
Watch the Eat Local Month video illustrating the relationship our local chefs and restaurateurs have with local farms, fishers, ranchers and the community. Meet local chefs and restaurateurs and learn how to GET A TASTE of their seasonal Eat Local Month specials crafted with fresh ingredients from local farms and food producers.

For the past 12 years, Sustainable Connections has hosted Eat Local Month events and activities to connect people with food that is grown, raised, harvested, and made right here in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, and Island counties. In response to the effects of the COVID-19 crisis,Sustainable Connections is reimagining Eat Local Month in a way that promotes the safety and well being of our community, while also creating new opportunities for fun and community connection.
