Even in the middle of a pandemic, Rutherford County has welcomed a variety of new places to eat and drink since January. Here's a list of places to try.

Peach Cobbler Factory

The award-winning Peach Cobbler Factory opened its second brick-and-mortar store at 242 S. Lowry St. in Smyrna in July.

There are more than a dozen flavors to choose from. You'll find the basics like peach and blackberry, but these guys have take it to the next level with flavors like peach-pear praline and even cobbler-stuff cinnamon rolls.

Helen's Hot Chicken

Three years after Helen’s Hot Chicken opened on Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro, the Middle Tennessee-based chain now has a location at 479 Sam Ridley Parkway. Enjoy hot chicken, fish and house-made sides.

Although delivery isn't yet available, you can order through the Helen’s Hot Chicken app, by calling 615-625-3411, or the old-fashioned way — at the counter.

Hours for Helen’s Hot Chicken in Smyrna are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 12-8 p.m. Sunday. Visit helenshotchicken.com/ for more details.

Panther Creek Brews

The award-winning Panther Creek Brews is now open at 714-F W. Main St., former home to the Green Dragon Pub and Brewery. Hours for the tap room are 3-10 p.m. Thursdays, 3-11 p.m. Fridays and 12-11 p.m. Saturdays.

Bee Hive Bistro

Enjoy bona fide soul food at Bee Hive Bistro, located at 2309 Mercury Blvd. in the former home to Bread and Butter Sandwich Company.

Specialties include made-to-order fried catfish and fried chicken, along with house-made sides and desserts, and chicken wings with a variety of sauces.

Bee Hive Bistro is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Order ahead by calling 615-546-4902, or visit beehivebistrollc.com/.

Crab Fever

Crab Fever is finally open at Stones River Towne Center, 1720 Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, near Chuck E. Cheese.

The Louisiana-style seafood kitchen menu includes Low-Country Boil favorites such as shrimp, crawfish, clams, mussels, crab legs and oysters.

Maddy's Restaurant

After an eight-year hiatus, Danny Perdieu returned to Smyrna this year to open Maddy's Restaurant at 901 Rock Springs Road.

Named after Perdieu's beloved white lab, Maddy's serves up made-to-order burgers, brats, hot dogs and sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Hand-dipped ice cream is on the menu, too.

There are also daily lunch specials and in the near future, Perdieu will be offering The Maddy's Challenge, featuring a 5-pound burger. There will eventually be live music as well.

Gordon's

Gordon's restaurant moved from Antioch to its new location at 321 Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna.

With a focus on hot chicken, Gordon's offers wings with your choice of nine sauces: Summer Breeze (mild), Fire Starter (medium), Hell Boy (hot), the Equator (extra-hot), barbecue honey-butter glaze, lemon pepper, Jack Daniel's, barbecue sauce, and the Panama Jack — a honey butter-coconut blend with touch of mango.

Big Bobby's

Big Bobby's BBQ is open at 2805 Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, former home to Blue Cactus Cantina.

Enjoy wings, tender pulled pork and fall-off-the-bone ribs, as well as made-from-scratch sides like yams, green beans, "dirty beans," coleslaw and potato salad.

Domenico's Italian Deli

It's a family affair at Domenico's Italian Deli, located at 106 S. Maple St. in downtown Murfreesboro.

Whether you choose one of more than a dozen signature sandwiches or make your own — these are hearty hand-held meals using the very best ingredients.

Specialty meats like salami and prosciutto will come from Molinari and Sons, a famous market based in San Francisco. They also make charcuterie boards and you can also order those meats to take home as well as hand-made cannolis.

El Gauche Ice Cream

El Gauche Ice Cream shop recently opened at 230 Stones River Mall Blvd. in Murfreesboro, next to Stones River Town Centre.

The shop's specialty is made-from-scratch ice cream and paletas (frozen ice pops) using fresh ingredients, along with milkshakes, agua frescas and smoothies and a variety of snacks like nachos and elotes.

Boro Bowls

Boro Bowls, 123 S. Church St. in downtown Murfreesboro, features a menu centered around the Southern American acai berry.

Healthy eating: Boro Bowls now open

Bowls are filled with the acai berries and other fresh and frozen fruits like bananas, mangoes and strawberries, then topped with honey, granola, coconut flakes, seeds and nut butters. She also serves smoothies and fresh lemonade. Everything is vegan and dairy free, and granola is gluten free. 

Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, owner Tasha Worthan calls it a "super fruit cafe."
