Spice up your life 

Critic Brad A. Johnson heard that spicy food boosts the immune system, which is why he’s been eating chicken vindaloo from Clay Oven in Irvine among other flavorful dishes as part of a family-style takeout package. Read more.

Planning a petition 

Unlike other county agencies in the region, the Orange County Health Care Agency does not regularly post a list of restaurants closed because an employee contracted COVID-19. An activist is hoping to change that with a petition for such reporting that she plans to bring to the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Read more.

Coronavirus closures 

More Orange County restaurants have closed, seven of them because they found out at least one of their employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Anne Valdespino has more.

Testing the ‘dimmer switch’

Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered that restaurants in Orange County and beyond shut down indoor dining for at least three weeks. Newsom called the order a “dimmer switch, not an on-and-off switch.” How it will affect restaurants depends generally on how much outdoor space that have. Read more.

This lime pie must be pretty good because it apparently saved a restaurant. Cathy Thomas discovered this recipe in Los Angeles baker Nicole Rucker’s cookbook. Rucker said she put the recipe on the menu at her restaurant Fiona because she needed an easy pie that held well in the fridge. Let’s Cook!
