Who's ready for a nice, long holiday weekend?
You are? And you over there? Oh, you too?
Same.
Let's fill up on food news — so we can be stuffed when we relaaax.
Eat America
This Fourth of July will be unlike any other. We will celebrate together but distantly, as we're forced to reconsider our nation's history and how freedom has not been equal for all. The great thing about the U.S. is we're allowed, encouraged even, to do this. We can re-analyze our past and re-learn from it. And, of course, we can eat. We must eat. Food is universal; it's one thing uniting us. These four dishes (from lobster rolls to deep dish pizza) were born and bred in these United States, and I've got the best places for you to find them locally. News-Press subscribers click here. Naples Daily News readers, I've got you here.
I'm eating at home again, here's why
Are we allowed to eat in Southwest Florida restaurants? Yes. Am I? No. My reasons are personal, and I'm making up for it with boatloads of takeout. Here's a quick refresher on how to make the most of to-go orders, to keep yourself and restaurant staff safer, and to support our local restaurants as best we can.
Pandemic in the kitchen!
As quarantine restrictions fluctuate and the world melts, these six mindless un-recipes have gotten staff writers Annabelle Tometich and Sarajane Sullivan through this glorious mess of a time. Are they healthy? Not really. Are they good? Eh. Are they food? Some would say no. BUT ARE THEY HILARIOUS? Oh so very. Find them here.
What else?
• After 41 years serving the Iona neighborhood of south Fort Myers, LaMotta's Italian Restaurant has closed and is on the move — to Cape Coral. Annabelle dishes the details.
• Is there anything that screams summer louder than watermelon? Learn how to select, drink and cook with this juicy-sweet fruit, courtesy Naples Chef Don Splain and our own Gina Birch.
• Some days I want a salad. Some days I want to smother my feelings in cheese sauce and ice cream with a side of fries. I've had a lot of those latter "some days" of late, and these local restaurants can help, with insane, over-the-top dishes sure to sate any craving.
Full? It happens to the best of us. Bookmark news-press.com/taste and naplesnews.com/entertainment/restaurants for the latest from the SWFL dining scene.
