Where to Eat Filipino Food in San Diego - Eater San Diego

Filipino food is more than just lumpia and pancit — two popular dishes commonly served at gatherings and parties. The cuisine is an amalgam of the island nation’s rich history. It includes Chinese and Muslim influences and extends to time as a Spanish colony and U.S. occupation before it became an independent nation. And San Diego County is rife with eateries specializing in Filipino food due to the huge pinoy population, the second largest in the U.S. Here’s a primer on where to go for pancit and lumpia as well as adobo (the national dish of the Philippines) and more. While these places won’t be as nearly good as your friend’s or neighbor’s Filipino home cooking, some places come pretty close.

Some restaurants have outdoor seating, while others continue to offer takeout and/or delivery only; check each eatery’s hours and mode of operation before you visit. This should not be taken as endorsement for on-site dining, as there are still safety concerns: for updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the County of San Diego website. Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines.
