Earlier this year, mukbang vlogger ErikTheElectric decided to take on an increasingly popular YouTube challenge: burning 10,000 calories in a single day, while simultaneously consuming 10,000 calories in the same time. "I certainly know my way around food, and I certainly know how to eat lots of calories," says Erik at the top of the video. "This is going to be, without a doubt, the most physically demanding thing I've ever attempted."

In order to reach his goal, Erik has to burn at least 416.6 calories each and every hour. And just to raise the pressure, he adds a caveat to the rules: if at any point he throws up, he instantly fails the challenge.

He starts off the day with a 16-mile run, burning approximately 2,384 calories. "I'm already regretting not getting enough sleep last night," he says. "Sometimes all you can do is just get started."

Erik then stocks up on snacks and heads out for a 112-mile bike ride. "To be honest, I'm not even that hungry, but my energy is starting to fade," he says, 5 hours into the challenge, before tearing open a bag of Skittles and pouring them directly into his mouth, and chowing down on a couple of soft-bake bars.

Upon completing the ride, Erik has burned 7,514 calories. "I am in a world of pain right now," he says. "I'm not really too sure what's going to happen, but I know I'm lacking on calories right now." To get back on track with his calorie intake, he hits up the In-N-Out and Krispy Kreme drive-throughs, getting two burgers, fries, a milkshake, and no fewer than seven donuts.

After devouring the In-N-Out in his car, Erik takes the donuts out on a hike, shoveling them down as he walks to ensure he's getting in as many calories as he's burning. Then he picks up sushi, cereal, chocolate and marshmallows from the supermarket on his way home, where he goes for his second ride, this time on a stationary bike.

"I'm so ready for this to be over," he says, as he sits down for his final batch of calories, including apple pie, smores, soda, and cookies.

After one last round of pushups and burpees, he finally crosses the finish line, burning 10,036 calories. However, looking back on the 24 hours, he sees that he made some simple mistakes, including exerting himself far too much in the earlier hours of the day, and not fueling up sooner. Not to mention that the following day, he has blisters, muscle pain, and cannot focus due to having had a terrible night's sleep.

"It's great to exercise, but please, do not attempt to burn 10,000 calories in 24 hours," he says.
