BATAVIA — Eat Well Grill customers will still be eating well — they’ll just be getting their meals from a different location.

Wednesday was the restaurant’s last day at its former home inside Eli Fish Brewing Company on East Main Street. Eat Well, owned by John and Jill Kratz, will relocate to 301 North St., where Commit To Well, a meal prep service run by Jill Kratz, is located.

“While we will miss our first home at Eli Fish Brewing Company, we are excited to combine Eat Well Grill and Commit To Well under one roof,” the Kratzes wrote in a Facebook post a few days ago. They anticipate reopening Eat Well Grill in the first week of December.

John Kratz said Tuesday that the 18-month lease was up.

“We had been looking at different options. Right now, with everything that’s going on with COVID, it just seems like the smart move is to combine the restaurant with Commit To Well meal prep services,” he told The Daily News. “Nothing’s changing for us other than we’re going to switch to carryout and curbside pickup at the location where Commit to Well is. When we opened the restaurant, there wasn’t enough space for us to do the meal prep and the restaurant at Eli Fish.”

John Kratz said Eat Well has already starting moving equipment to 301 North St, which also houses the YWCA and where space is being renovated for Three Little Birds Pediatrics’ future home. Eat Well has started painting and touchup work at its new home.

“They have a lot of construction going on right now. Our opening here will depend on how ... their construction is going. It looks like we’ll be able to shoot for that first week in December,” he said.

“It’s just a matter of putting some additional equipment in to service our takeout business. We’re just adding some equipment,” he said. “It’s a good-sized space. It’s a real big kitchen. That’s the advantage to it and that’s why we’re so fortunate that there’s more space.”

John Kratz said the North Street location is ideal for curbside pickup.

“It’s one of the positives of being here. You have quick access to run in and grab takeout or one of the grab-and-go meals,” he said. “We have a cooler there, off to the side, with premade meals. If you’re in a hurry, you can grab something out of the cooler that’s premade.”

The Eat Well menu will stay the same, he said.

“Since we’ve been at Eli Fish, within the last three months, we added gluten-free wraps. The core of our menu is salads, warm bowls and now wraps as well. Our entire menu is gluten-free,” Kratz said.

John Kratz says there’s been good community support for Eat Well Grill, despite business slowing down during the pandemic.

“With additional concerns related to positive (COVID) results, it seems like everyone’s being a little more cautious and things have slowed down a little bit,” he said.

On social media and face-to-face, lot of Eat Well customers have wished it well during the move.

“A lot of our costumers and supporters have stopped in to wish us well,” he said, adding that people also say they’re excited about the move.
