While it may seem like the pandemic has put a hold on many trends, you would be surprised at how many trends have started, especially food and drink trends. As we all know, things are beginning to almost get back to normal. States are beginning phases of opening things, but most places are continuing to adjust and adapt. Many things have changed in our everyday lives. Now, we have become accustomed to those things and safely living out our lives as well as daily tasks.
Since the pandemic, there has been an unusual food and drink trend going around. It isn’t about dalgona coffee either. These trends don’t include panic buyers going into grocery stores and buying every bean, egg, or meat off the shelves. What we’re talking about is what most people call the “new normal” since the world has changed around us.
Vegan and Healthy Food
Food preferences have been changing dramatically since the start of the pandemic. When all this started everyone was going to the grocery stores and buying out most of what they had. This made people resort to buying other things they normally wouldn’t have. I noticed that my diet has changed because my grocery list has changed since most of the things that I usually bought were out of stock. According to the Food Industry Executive, when surveying people, 23% said they were now eating more plant-based meals due to lockdown.
Cocktail ‘Quarantini’
All bars, nightclubs, and restaurants have been closed, so most have bought beer and liquor and looking up the booziest drink that they can find online to make. Let’s not forget the good ole saying, “it’s five o’clock somewhere,”and now we are all taking it literally. Also, liquor stores were open when everything else started to shut down. This gave people access to make a lot of those ‘quarantinis’ as they choose.
Food Delivery
As restaurants are closed for inside dining, most have taken advantage of curbside pickup or delivery. It’s nice to go out for a meal and sit down and enjoy your dinner. But now that restaurants have changed the way they are serving food, people are restoring to delivery apps and other methods to pick up food. According to Axios, between February and March, the percentage of parents using delivery apps increased from 16% to 20%. People without kids saw their share increase from 27% to 28%, CivicScience noted.
Home Cooking
Now, this is a big one. As everyone is getting used to the idea of being stuck at home and things are shut down, most people have been cooking at home more than what they are used to. With grocery stores still open and the internet right at your fingertips, here come the new kitchen creations. A recent study by HUNTER found 54% are cooking more, and 46% are baking more. Also, 50% are more confident in the kitchen, and 26% are learning more about cooking. While 35% enjoy cooking more than ever, and 38% enjoy cooking as much as ever. Yes, these numbers are real. I mean who doesn’t enjoy a nice home-cooked meal once and a while.
