In the movies, many a character has their signature drink. James Bond has his vodka martini, always shaken, not stirred. And Hannibal Lecter has always had an affinity for a nice Chianti to go along with his meal of, well... never mind.
Favorite TV show characters also have favorite drinks. Maybe it's a crisp glass of white wine, a vodka soda, or even something non-alcoholic, like a chai latte tea, a comforting mug of hot cocoa, or a refreshingly tall glass of water.
Fan-favorite characters have indulged in their own favorite drink of choice, some of which are pretty standard and others, not so much. What are some of the most notable ones?
10 Don Draper On Mad Men: Old Fashioned
Whether he was out for dinner with clients, a date, dealing with tough issues at the office, trying to come up with a brilliant campaign idea, or relaxing while throwing back a few with his colleague Roger Sterling – or even by himself – Don Draper on Mad Men had a go-to drink: the Old Fashioned.
Sure, in a pinch he'd simply pour, or accept a pour, of whisky from the cart strategically placed in his, or any of his colleagues', offices. But when given the choice to order, it was always this classic cocktail, which includes a mix of bourbon or rye whiskey with sugar, Angostura bitters, and a splash of water.
9 Carrie Bradshaw On Sex And The City: Cosmopolitan
This HBO series is single-handedly responsible for popularizing this sweet, feminine cocktail, which typically consists of vodka with Cointreau, fresh lime juice, and cranberry juice, shaken with ice and garnished with a lime.
It has become the drink of choice for ladies, whether they're getting together for brunch or enjoying a night out partying at the club. And this is all thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and her gal pals on Sex and the City, who ordered these by the dozen while spilling the beans on their love lives, careers, and other drama.
8 Sheldon/Missy Cooper On Young Sheldon: Yoo-Hoos
Set in the '90s, Young Sheldon, a sequel to The Big Bang Theory, tells the story of a young Sheldon Cooper as he deals with adolescence and his average family life in Texas. He was very particular about everything, including what he drank. When he needed to quench his thirst, or was dealing with a tough issue, he – and his twin sister Missy - always went straight for the Yoo-hoos.
What's a Yoo-hoo? A drink that was popular at the time, it is, depending on who you ask, either delicious or disgusting. The chocolate drink is made from water, high-fructose corn syrup, and whey. It's sort of like chocolate milk, but not really chocolate milk. It's made to taste like chocolate milk but with ingredients that give it a much longer shelf life. Needless to say, it isn't exactly healthy. But when Sheldon or Missy wanted to indulge, they went straight to the fridge for a cold one.
7 Homer Simpson On The Simpsons: Duff Beer
Homer Simpson loved his beer and he would always drink the same brand: Duff. Whether he was buying some to pop open while watching TV on the couch at home or drinking at Moe's Tavern, it was his go-to favorite.
Interestingly, the fictional brand of beer became so popular from The Simpsons that several companies began developing variations of it in real life. Eventually, in 2015, 20th Century Fox began selling licensed Duff bear in Chile, in an effort to weed out the imposters and those using the brand without permission. Time Magazine called Duff Beer one of the most influential fictional companies of all time. What's in Duff beer? Who knows. Nonetheless, it's what Homer loves to drink.
6 Tyrion Lannister On Game Of Thrones: Red Wine
Tyrion's love of this drink is central to the words he lives by: "I drink and I know things." This was his mantra on Game of Thrones, referencing his penchant for indulging in alcoholic beverages as well as his superior intellect and knowledge about the goings-on in Westeros.
But what did Tyrion like to drink? Given the time period, there weren't many options. The two most common drinks that were made were red wine and ale. And being a refined son of royalty, of course Tyrion opted for wine. And he drank it by the chalice.
5 Micheal Scott On The Office: Scotch And Splenda
Leave it to Michael Scott, the boss at boring paper company Dunder Mifflin on The Office, to have the oddest taste in drinks. While scotch and soda is a common combination, Michael preferred to add some sweetness to the alcohol instead. But he didn't want refined sugar or fruit juices. He opted for artificial sweetener Splenda.
He even made a drink that went a step further, which he called the One of Everything. It included not only scotch and Splenda, but also equal parts absinthe, rum, gin, vermouth, and triple sec.
4 Liz Lemon On 30 Rock: Funky Juice
Tina Fey's character Liz Lemon on 30 Rock was the creator and writer of a fictional sketch comedy series. But when she was ready to let loose at the end of the workday, she had a signature drink that she put together herself. She called it Funky Juice, and it actually sounds like it might taste pretty good.
It's sort of a unique take on a wine spritzer, consisting of Sprite mixed with white wine and a few ice cubes. There's one important detail, however, that goes along with the drink: it must be stored in a thermos by the toilet.
3 Brian Griffin On Family Guy: Martini
Brian Griffin is the family dog on Family Guy, except he is anthropomorphic in that he walks around on his hind legs, uses his front legs like arms, and talks. By all intents and purposes, he's just like a human. He holds down jobs and even dates human women.
And he likes to drink, particularly martinis. He might like them a little too much as he is considered to be an alcoholic. His catchphrase even focuses on his love of the vodka (or gin) drink: "Whose leg do I have to hump to get a martini around here?"
2 J.D. On Scrubs: Appletini
While many might consider any drink that ends in "tini" and that features a fruit to be "girlish," J.D. from Scrubs didn't really care. He was loud and proud about his love of Appletinis. Except he would ask for them to be made in a very particular way: "easy on the tini," whatever that means.
The Appletini cocktail is made from vodka and apple juice along with cider or liqueur. J.D. loved them so much, he once paid $105 for one.
1 Barney Stinson On How I Met Your Mother: Scotch
While his friends would relax at MacLaren's Pub with a bottle or mug of beer, for Barney, it was always scotch. It went along with his refined and expensive tastes that always saw him wearing a suit on every episode of How I Met Your Mother, no matter if his friends were in T-shirts and jeans.
His go-to was a 30- or 35-year-old Glen McKenna, a single malt scotch, and he always ordered it neat. It reportedly cost a pretty penny and tasted, according to Ted, a little "smokey with a hint of aged cedar." Glen McKenna doesn't actually exist, but it was likely a name devised by combining two real brands of scotch and bourbon whiskey: Glenlivet and Henry McKenna. The drink was featured in the show's series finale as the group shared a 35-year-old bottle at MacLaren's for the last time.
