Ghost kitchens are on the rise, especially during the pandemic so it was only a matter of time before critic Brad A. Johnson explored some of the options available in Orange County.

Brad sampled Rhea Mommy’s Kitchen, Yeemy Yummy, Maast Indian Cuisine and Yi Shan.

Not quite a star

Last year, the Michelin Guide California made a splashy debut. However, with the pandemic, the gourmand guide held a virtual gala Tuesday that highlighted outstanding restaurants deemed “new discoveries” rather than award stars. Multiple Southern California restaurants were honored, including two in Orange County. Anne Valdespino has more. Read more.

Booze-less Basilico’s? 

Basilico’s Pasta e Vino, a Huntington Beach restaurant that’s vocally opposed wearing masks and ignored coronavirus restrictions, may now be in danger of losing its liquor license. Anne Valdespino has more. Read more. 

Tony Monaco, owner of The Blind Pig Kitchen + Bar with locations in Rancho Santa Margarita and Yorba Linda, was dealing with a case of mistaken restaurant identity. The owner of the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, Michigan appeared on a national campaign ad for Joe Biden. Suddenly Monaco’s two bars were taking angry phone calls and seeing mean social media comments from folks who thought his restaurants were taking a political stand. Not that Blind Pig 

Tony Monaco, owner of The Blind Pig Kitchen + Bar with locations in Rancho Santa Margarita and Yorba Linda, said his bars were receiving angry phone calls and social media comments after the owner of an unrelated Blind Pig in Michigan appeared in a presidential campaign ad. Read more.

At least once a week, dinners at Cathy Thomas’ house showcase boneless, skinless chicken breasts. They may not be the most flavorful cuts of meat, but she tells you how pump them full of flavor with three recipes: almond crusted chicken breast with baby lettuce, chicken parmesan with arugula salad and orange-glazed chicken breasts.
