A second virtual beer festival hosted by the Oregon Brewers Guild will be held Saturday, featuring brewers from across Oregon as well as guests from some of the most well-known craft breweries across the nation.
The “Drink Beer, Be Kind Virtual Beerfest” will include panel discussions and chats with brewers and other guests, live music, comedy, axe-throwing and more, the guild said.
Panel discussions will be held on the Zoom app, with additional content on the event’s Facebook page. Ticket-holders can watch the festival live or afterwards, as well.
“Beer fans and brewers sent a clear message after our May virtual fest: ‘Do it again,’” said Tony Roberts, the guild’s co-executive director. “This event can’t replace the outdoor festivals we’re missing this year, but we can still connect, have a great time, and even learn a thing or two.”
The guild held its first virtual fest, the “Stay Home, Drink Beer Virtual Festival,” on May 2. The event, which sold about 500 tickets, featured behind-the-scenes brewery tours, upcoming beer release news and discussions with some of Oregon’s top brewers
Saturday’s fest, which starts at 1 p.m. and ends with a group happy hour at 5:45 p.m., features out-of-state guests Vinnie Cilurzo of California’s Russian River Brewing, John Mallett of Michigan’s Bell’s Brewery, Will Kemper of Bellingham’s Chuckanut Brewery, and Ashleigh Carter and Bill Eye of Denver’s Bierstadt Lagerhaus.
Oregon brewers will include John Harris of Ecliptic Brewing, Jamie Floyd of Ninkasi Brewing, Kevin Davey of Wayfinder Beer, Lisa Allen of Heater Allen, Teri Fahrendorf of Pink Boots Society and Gracie Nelson of Migration Brewing, among others.
Panel discussions will include:
- Legends in Beer
- America’s Craft Lager Renaissance
- Standing Out in a Crowd
- Homebrew Revue
- The Art of Collaboration
- From Barrel to Bottle
The $5 event is a fundraiser for the guild, which supports Oregon craft breweries and has seen a steep decline in revenue since COVID-19 shutdowns in March. The guild is also selling a limited-edition T-shirt for $25 and holding a raffle during “Drink Beer, Be Kind.”
The guild said the name of the event was developed because “breweries and customers alike are grappling with a post-COVID reality that has drastically changed what it means to go grab a beer. The Guild encourages everyone to follow this simple mantra when you’re out at your favorite brewery: Drink Beer, Be Kind. Remember, we’re all in this together.”
Festival and raffle tickets can be bought online, as can the T-shirts.
