Drunken driving: East Pleasant Valley Road
On June 15, police observed a speeding gray Ford Taurus traveling east on East Pleasant Valley Road. At first, the driver didn’t pull over. When the man finally stopped the Ford, he was arrested.
While talking to the driver, the officer smelled booze. Asked where he was coming from, the man slurred that he was coming from a friend’s bar, but that he didn’t drink there.
After failing a field sobriety test, the Cleveland man was arrested for drunken driving. He was also cited for speeding.
Weapons charge: Chestnut Road
On June 11, police observed a Hyundai Elantra with no rear license plate illumination on Chestnut Road. The officer said the car reeked of marijuana and that they could smell it while traveling behind the vehicle.
Asked about the odor, the Cleveland driver denied having any marijuana in the Hyundai. However, the passenger did produce a blunt.
When told that the Elantra was going to be searched, the driver became upset and exited the Hyundai while grabbing at her pants. As she tried to grab again at her pants, the officer put her in handcuffs. During a search, the officer found a gun in her waistband.
The passenger then told the officer that she had drug paraphernalia in her bag. That included a grinder.
The officer found an opened bottle of tequila in the Elantra.
The passenger was not cited. The driver was charged with improperly handling a weapon in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
