CREIGHTON -- The three-day 147th Berry Pepper Festival showed off Creighton culture this weekend.
"It's a big thing because everybody is just excited to get out, we were cooped up for a year and it's fun to enjoy the people and festivities," said Cory Frisch, Creighton Chamber President.
"We couldn't do it last year because of the pandemic so we're having a good time," Laura Owenf said.
It all started in the 1950s when one man decided to mix Dr. Pepper and alcohol.
"It's actually a frozen drink that's sold at the pool and gas stations," said Jessica Gragert, server at the festival.
The actual drink came from Biff Warren, a local celebrity who returned this weekend to kick off a baseball game's first pitch. Owenf said that made the festivities even more special.
Festivities included dancing, singing, a cornhole tournament, and an economic profit.
"I have a business down the street, I enjoy cooking out [...] It's huge [for business]," Rhonda Hurteg said.
"It brings business to the town, the rib fest cookers buying things," said Brandon Gragert, chamber VP. His dad owns a grocery store in town. There's also a bar that just opened last month in town.
Frisch hopes that for their 150th, the town can add a fireworks show.
"Maybe it will be the small Big Bang Boom," Brandon Gragert said.
