California coffee shop, Philz Coffee has teamed up with plant-based favorites Eat Just, Beyond Meat, and Daiya to bring guests a delicious way to enjoy a pant-based breakfast with their morning tea or coffee- the Philz Plant-Powered Sandwich. The breakfast sandwich, which is currently available across all 50+ California Philz Coffee locations, features JUST Egg Folded, Beyond Breakfast Sausage, and a slice of Daiya cheese.
VEGWORLD had the chance to swing by a Philz location to try the new sandwich for ourselves. From the start, we were impressed with the COVID precautions that were in place- the option to order ahead with the Philz app and a super straight-forward pick-up method, clearly marked social distance stickers and taped arrows on the ground, and ample space to wait outside for your order to be called if you placed a walk-up order.
The vegan options were also impressive! First off, Philz does not charge extra for plant milk, so you can get your almond, vanilla soy, or oat milk without having to worry about an up-charge. Second, unlike many popular coffee chains, Philz Coffee does not use syrups or toppings. What does this mean for vegans ordering a coffee or tea from Philz? Well, it means you don’t have to worry about your delicious drinks containing hidden animal products. Amazing! Finally, the food. Based on the in-app menu for the Philz Coffee location we visited (shoutout to the Pasadena Philz!), vegan guests can enjoy a vegan Sugar & Spice Donut and, of course, the Philz Plant-Powered Sandwich. There are other vegan options, including a wider variety of donuts and bagels, depending on your location and availability.
For this visit, we enjoyed an Iced Mocha Tesora with oat milk and a Black tea with almond milk- both were delicious! Still, the real star of the show was the Philz Plant-Powered Sandwich. Our sandwiches were served nice and hot and even came with little packets of TapatÃo (very exciting for those of us who like to spice things up). We enjoyed every bite and can’t wait to stop by Philz Coffee again for some coffee and plant-based breakfast sandwich goodness.
