Back in July 2019, Taiwanese teenager Qiu got himself involved in a major road accident, which resulted with multiple serious injuries. He was found with injuries to his spleen, right kidney, liver, abdomen, and bladder among other things.

To add to this, Qiu also had to battle internal bleeding. His injuries warranted a total of six surgeries.

Though the teenager's condition became stable after all his treatment, he remained in a coma following his slow recovery.

After being comatose for 62 days, Qiu finally awoke, after his brother 'threatened' to eat the fried chicken his family had brought with them.

Right when Qiu's brother jokingly threatened to eat the poor boy's fried chicken, his heart rate started picking up; he slowly started to regain consciousness.

Whether his 'spirit' didn't want to let his fried chicken be eaten by someone else, or that he coincidentally woke up after his brother joked that he would eat the chicken, no one will really know.

His fight for survival wasn't easy though. According to a nurse in the Dongyuan General Hospital Intensive Care Unit, Qiu had to battle a 62-day "tug-of-war with the God of death."

General surgeon Gao Yizhi said the boy had to go through various complicated surgeries, including a craniotomy, laparotomy, right clavicle and right femur reduction and fixation, splenectomy,

Throughout the recovery process, Qiu's family also recorded chants of support and encouragement and played them out loud over and over again to get the then-comatose boy to wake up.

After spending nearly six months in hospital, Qiu made a full recovery and got discharged in December 2019.

As a form of thanks to the hospital staff that saved his life and took care of him during his recovery, the boy returned to the hospital. But this time he didn't have any injuries.

He came bearing a sweet gift – cake!

Now Qiu can have all the fried chicken he wants.
