Ready to drink (RTD) cocktails are a rising segment in the line ups of whiskey distilleries large and small. A way to enjoy a chilled drink with a touch of whiskey in it in a simple fashion, it is seen by a good number of consumers, particularly amongst the younger set, as a convenient way to have a cocktail. Sales reflect positive trends in this category, with it being mentioned that annual sales are upwards of $62 million.
It thus makes sense one would see larger and well established whiskey brands such as Jack Daniel’s moving to get in on the game. It has just introduced to the American market, in time for summer, its new Jack Daniel’s Canned Cocktails series, consisting of three different offerings: Jack & Seltzer; Jack & Cola; and Jack, Honey & Lemonade.
“We are always listening to our friends,” said Lisa Hunter, Jack Daniel’s Flavors Brand Director, in a prepared statement, “and these new canned cocktails will be a convenient and refreshing way for them to enjoy our Tennessee Whiskey with a selection of wonderful flavors. Each drink is perfectly balanced to highlight the flavors of our charcoal-mellowed whiskey in a drinkable and convenient format.
“This is real Jack and it’s ready to go.”
With regards to specifics of each offering, here is some info from Jack Daniel’s on what you can expect when you crack open a can:
- Jack & Seltzer: 5% ABV; 0 carbs and 97 calories; “Jack is cutting carbs. You’ll find 0 carbohydrates and just 97 calories in our perfectly mixed cans of real Jack and refreshing seltzer. It’s refreshing and light, with just the right amount of boldness.”
- Jack & Cola: 7% ABV; “Looking to enjoy one of the all-time classic drinks? We’re way ahead of you. This combination of real Jack and fizzy cola is perfectly mixed and already ready to drink. It’s like we read your mind.”
- Jack, Honey & Lemonade: 7% ABV; “Nothing’s quite as refreshing as a perfectly mixed Jack, Honey & Lemonade. Except of course, for a perfectly mixed Jack, Honey & Lemonade that comes in a can. They’re made with real Jack and ready to drink – wherever the cooler may take you.”
Plans call availability in select markets starting this month, including CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, NH, NV, MD, MN, NY, PA, TN, TX, and WI. Pricing is set at around $13 for a 4-pack of 12 oz. cans and around $4 for a single can.
