We’re game for any juice cleanse, as long as it comes in cocktail form.
Local mixologist Jen LaForge concocted a “garden-to-glass” cocktail, the Potager Potable, that has us ready to commit to an all-liquid diet ASAP.
Typically poured at the beverage hotspot Blossom Bar at Sichuan Garden in Brookline, LaForge’s Potager Potable literally means “drinkable garden” en français. It’s an alcoholic elixir brimming with herbaceous and vegetal notes, thanks to its unique blend of St-Germain elderflower liqueur, orange bell pepper, tomato and fresh grapefruit.
It strikes the perfect balance between, ‘Look at me: I’m a glowing goddess of health and wellness,’ and, ‘God, do I need a drink’.
For “Jardin Cordial”:
Fresh orange bell peppers
Fresh tomatoes on the vine
75 g. granulated sugar
Using a citrus or vegetable juicer, collect 100 grams of strained, seeded orange bell pepper juice and 50 grams of strained tomato juice. Add sugar and stir until it’s completely dissolved.
Refrigerate in a sealed container for up to one week.
For Potager Potable cocktail:
¾ oz. St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
¾ oz. fino sherry
1 oz. “Jardin Cordial”
¾ oz. grapefruit juice
Pinch of salt
1 oz. tonic water (she uses London Essence with bitter orange and elderflower)
Ice cubes
In a shaker, combine all of the ingredients except the tonic water. Add ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Double strain it into a chilled collins glass, add cubed ice to fill and top with tonic.
