Angelica Gutierrez, also known as @bartendermom on TikTok, knows that first dates can be awkward. As a bartender, she sees a lot of first dates and even believes that helping out with that first date discomfort is part of her job.

"People don’t get that bartending is a lot more the middle man than you think. We kind of do it all, and [being the] matchmaker is kind of part of that," she told Delish: "You want them to have a good time, you try to start conversations for them if they’re not already having conversations. Or maybe I’d send over a round of shots just to get that spark going and to lighten their mood."
With over 972,000 followers on TikTok, Gutierrez shares her favorite mixed drinks, craft cocktails, and fun shots for her fans. She says that sticking to the menu is always a good idea when possible: "Those are really hand crafted and don't stray from the ounces, they’re not making things up, it’s things they do day in and day out on the regular so they’re perfected drinks."

If you don't know where to start, Gutierrez says that asking the bartender for advice is never a bad idea. "Sometimes people don't want to ask because they think the bartender is intimidating. We’d rather have all the questions to know what they like so they start off on a good drink and the rest will just follow," she said.
