The Cookies and Scream Whoppie Pie coming to Taste of Fall-O-Ween at Knott’s Berry Farm. (Knott’s)

OK, so you can’t ride the roller coasters or get chased through a haunted maze by a sinister looking clown at Knott’s Berry Farm this year (thanks, COVID), but if you like to eat and drink, you may still want to visit the Buena Park theme park.

The Taste of Fall-O-Ween event, which will happen on 18 select dates from Sept. 25 through Nov. 1, will have more than 50 food and drink items at two dozen booths spread throughout the park.

There will be pizzas, burgers, churros, alcoholic beverages and much more. Many of the items will be Halloween-themed. Brady MacDonald gives you the full menu lineup. Read more.

Juliette Kitchen + Bar closes

Juliette Kitchen + Bar in Newport Beach temporarily closed to repair the floor and that closure became a permanent one. It was the last straw in a list of challenges the restaurant has faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant’s owner tells Anne Valdespino. Read more.

My heart is in Habana

Habana’s location at The Lab in Costa Mesa feels as hip, trendy and modern as some of Orange County’s newest restaurants, but it’s actually been around for a quarter of a century. This week, the restaurant is rolling back prices to 1995 levels on certain items. Read more.

Guten tag, Oktoberfest!

Coronavirus is the great canceler of events in 2020 and that includes many Oktoberfest celebrations around Southern California. That said, there are still some places slinging brats and German lagers (with social distancing requirements in effect, of course). Fielding Buck tells you where you can go. Read more.

OC Restaurant Week is expanding, adding a second event in September. It’s billed as Fall OC Restaurant Week, titled Restaurant Week Uncorked and it will run from Sept. 13-26. Seen here, the patio at participating restaurant, Anaheim White House. (Courtesy of Anaheim White House)

A double dose of restaurant week

Orange County is currently celebrating a second — yes, second — restaurant week to encourage people to support the county’s restaurants during the pandemic. This installment, which runs through Sept. 26, has a more booze-friendly theme. Anne Valdespino has more. Read more.

The CDC has released a report stating that frequenting restaurants raises the risk of contracting COVID-19, raising concerns of local operators, such as Andrew Gruel, owner of Slapfish, and the National Restaurant Association. Increased risk at restaurants?

A recent report from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention indicated that restaurant diners were twice as likely to contract COVID-19, but restaurants and the National Restaurant Association were quick to question the report and the investigation it was based on. Pandemic got you feeling down? Cathy Thomas says that one of the things that helps alleviate the blues in her quarantine kitchen is baking cookies. This week she’s got three cookie recipes to share: One is crisp and spicy; another is chewy and filled with dried fruits and nuts; and a third is a kind you’ll want to dip in some coffee or tea. Let’s bake!
