‘Eat in the Streets,' Birmingham’s outdoor dining event allowing patrons to support local restaurants during COVID-19, will continue to expand its lineup with a new location, new restaurants, and new dates for the upcoming fall season.

Pepper Place (2829 Second Ave. South.) will host Eat in the Streets starting today (Sept. 25) from 5 to 10 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 26. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Starting today at 2 p.m., organizers will block off 29th Street South between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South. The street is slated to reopen on Saturday some time after 4 p.m.

Like the version of Eat in the Streets in Avondale, this weekend’s block party in Pepper Place will include the option for patrons to order alcoholic drinks to go. Pepper Place is one of Birmingham’s four entertainment districts-- meaning patrons can order alcoholic beverages at one location and take them off premises within the boundaries of the district. As usual, a mask ordinance remains in effect for the whole state due to COVID-19. Patrons are required to wear masks at the event, but may remove them to eat and drink at the outdoor tables and chairs. Carryout will also be available.

Future Dates

Birmingham’s Eat in the Streets block party has been in high demand since its July pilot in Avondale. Pepper Place has more Eat in the Streets events planned for fall. Downtown Birmingham and Avondale will hold the events again next month. Downtown Birmingham restaurants in the 100 and 200 block of 20th Street North will host Eat in the Streets on Oct. 16 and 17. Participating restaurants for that weekend include Zaza, Cafe Dupont, Paramount, Bistro 218, Chocolata, Manhattan Deli, Helen, and The Yard restaurant and Moon Shine rooftop bar at Elyton Hotel.

Avondale will host Eat in the Streets on Oct. 9 and 10.
