It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but the Santa Pub Crawl already has Easton residents looking forward to Christmas.

The event scheduled for Dec. 11 is just the latest in a longstanding tradition of Easton Pub Crawls to benefit city charities.

“I enjoy it. I like that it brings everyone together,” said David Madochick of Rivals Sports Bar and Restaurant along Centre Square Easton. He’s the chief organizer of the crawls.

The most recent Easton Pub Crawl, the Zombie Pub Crawl on Oct. 16, raised nearly $8,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Easton. In the past 12 years, the crawls have raised more than $100,000, Madochick said.

To participate, you buy a $20 ticket ($25 on the day of the event) and get it stamped at the 12 participating restaurants. Each restaurant has food and drink specials. If you get all 12 stamps, you’re eligible for prizes during the afterparty at Rivals.

You’re not expected to chug a beer at every bar. Madochick acknowledges that’s not a good idea. Bartenders card all patrons and look for signs of intoxication, he said.

Participants are expected to sample some food and drinks and just get to know all the restaurants Downtown Easton has to offer.

The Santa crawl is a nice excuse for a crisp winter evening walk.

“A lot of people don’t even drink,” Madochick said.

Registration is between 1 and 3 p.m. Dec. 11. Or, you can buy a ticket in advance online. If you buy by Dec. 1, you can get a free T-shirt. The crawl wraps up with the afterparty at 8 p.m. The Santa crawl benefits the Easton Area Community Center. Past beneficiaries are the Third Street Alliance, Toys for Tots, the Greater Easton Development Partnership, the Center of Animal Health and Welfare and the Safe Harbor shelter.

The crawls started in 2009, Madochick said. As they grew in popularity, more crawls evolved. The Zombie crawl started in 2012. The Santa crawl started in 2015.

“I always try to shoot for 500 people,” he said.

Going out for a night on the town can be fun, but it’s even more fun when you dress up as Santa or Mrs. Claus, Madochick said.

“There are a lot of people who go out just because it’s fun to walk around the city,” Madochick said.

The Boys and Girls Club of Easton is grateful to be the recipient of the recent Zombie crawl.

“We are proud to be the recipients the Easton Pub Crawl and thankful for the local restaurants and community residents who help raised $7,962.10,” said Easton Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Dean Young.
