A Guide to: Festive Drinks - Redbrick

Now that the festive season is starting to get into full swing, I am sure I am not the only one whose mind instantly turns to the exciting Christmas beverages on offer when going round the supermarket. Here are just a few of my all-time favourite festive drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to get you in the spirit.

Gingerbread syrups are a great way of adding a little bit of extra flavour into your usual coffee

Gingerbread Latte:

If you are addicted to coffee like me, then you have to try a Gingerbread-flavoured Latte. Not only is it a super warming drink for cosy, winter nights but it also tastes exactly like Christmas. You can get many different varieties, such as those from coffee shops or instant pods and sachets that you can make yourself at home. If you are feeling extra luxurious, gingerbread syrups are a great way of adding a little bit of extra flavour into your usual coffee – this way you can add as little or as much as you would like.

Glitter Berry J2O:

J2O’s are available all year round, but since they are quite expensive, they are usually bought most often around the Christmas period as they make for great non-alcoholic party drinks. One particular flavour comes out especially for the festive season – this being Glitter Berry. This is a red drink with edible gold glitter in it, replicating the true Christmas colours, and is flavoured with grape, cherry and spice. A truly magical experience.

Shloer:

Shloer is best described as fizzy wine but without the alcohol meaning that it can be enjoyed by the whole family. Whilst there are a variety of flavours, my favourite one to have alongside my Christmas dinner is the white grape flavour. It immediately reminds me of white wine and is a really enjoyable drink.

Snowball:

A Snowball is an Eggnog drink – if Marmite was a beverage, it would be have to be a Snowball as you either love it or hate it. However, I cannot go a Christmas without having a glass, no matter how much I may not want to, as it is such a traditional drink to have in December, for my family, that it would be rude not to.

Baileys:

Baileys is my ultimate favourite alcoholic drink. As it is an Irish cream liqueur, it can be rather sickly if you have too much of it on it’s own. However, mixing the liqueur in with other drinks can immediately enhance the flavour. Baileys compliments so many things – I can hardly go a time without adding a couple of drops to my coffee as it just makes everything sweeter. With so many wonderful flavours to choose from including Salted Caramel (my ultimate favourite), Chocolate and Apple Pie to name a few, Christmas drinks have never been more exciting. Another variation is Baileys cream with mince pies, a very tasty treat if you are searching for more of an edible Baileys dessert.

Mulled Wine:

Mulled Wine. Need I say anymore? For those who drink alcohol, Mulled Wine has to be one of the most popular festive drinks. Whenever I go to a Christmas market I have to get one – a spicy and warming wine perfect for the winter. It is a drink that just screams Christmas and gets you excited for the celebrations to come.
