High-Tech Cocktails at Home: A Guide To Smart Drink Makers - Mansion Global

If social distancing has you missing your favorite watering hole, never fear-technology is here to help.

While smart devices haven’t (yet) figured out how to replicate your pub’s camaraderie, they’re getting pretty good at replicating its cocktails. Below, a few intelligent instruments for making adult beverages at home.

Bartesian

This countertop cocktail maker provides users with more than 25 (and growing) professionally tasting drinks at the tap of a button. Looking a little like laboratory equipment, the Bartesian consists of four canisters, flanking a central dispenser. Users fill their canisters with their base liquors of choice (gin, rum, tequila, vodka, whiskey), insert one of Bartesian’s proprietary cocktail mixture capsules in the top of the dispenser, select their preferred drink strength and Bartesian takes care of the rest, instantly pouring the requested libation.

Bartesian automatically reads the inserted capsule to identify which spirit is required and will even suggest the ideal glassware for enjoying your beverage.

The Bartesian is available for $349, with six cocktail capsules costing $14.99 or a monthly subscription of 18 capsules (of a variety of cocktails) available for $42.74.

Drinkworks Home Bar

From Keurig comes a cocktail-generating cousin to its coffee-creating flagship. Like Keurig’s instant brewer, the sleek and stylish Drinkworks Home Bar relies on proprietary pods to provide pub-perfect cocktails, and unlike the Bartesian, everything-spirits, juices, liqueurs, syrups, et cetera-are contained within the pod itself, negating the need for external alcohol containers.

Drinkworks ups the game further with the inclusion of a precision CO2-injected carbonation system and its Quick Cool KOLD® Technology, ensuring that your beverage will be as bubbly or chilled as the recipe requires. The only step users need to take is inserting the Drinkworks pod. The device automatically identifies the requested cocktail and prepares it to exacting specifications, all in less than 60 seconds.

The Drinkworks Home Bar is available for $299. Drinkworks currently has 23 different cocktail recipes, available in four pod packs for $17.99, with a 16-pod variety sampler available for $74.99.

The Patrón Margarita Smart Coaster

If amatuer mixologists are looking for a bit more hands-on approach to home cocktail making-but with foolproof tech to help along the way-then the Patrón Margarita Smart Coaster by Barsys may be a solid fit. This clever coaster syncs with the Barsys Coaster app, available on smartphones and tablets, where users can select the cocktail they would like to prepare. Once a drink is chosen, users place the accompanying shaker on the Smart Coaster and begin the recipe. The Coaster will flash green whenever the user has poured the appropriate amount of a given ingredient and should move on to the next item in the recipe. Before you know it, you’ve got a perfectly prepared cocktail-and all without the bar school bills.

The Patrón Margarita Smart Coaster is available for $149.

Soma Bar

Another canister-equipped cocktail maker, Soma Bar provides users with an endless array of drink possibilities and a seamless user experience. Soma Bar sports six liquid canisters (known as Soma Pods) that users can fill and refill with their preferred spirits, juices, syrups and more, and an accompanying iPad which makes ordering and managing your drink maker a breeze.

Users tag each Soma Pod with the encased ingredient, and the Soma Bar will recognize what has been inserted and automatically update the drink menu with all the recipes possible from the available ingredients. Switching from vodka to gin? It’s as simple as retagging the appropriate Soma Pod via the iPad app. Soma will also let users easily override their standard recipes, altering how much alcohol, juice or other ingredients to add to each drink at the tap of a few buttons. And if you want to go tap-free, you can too, as Soma is Alexa- and Siri-enabled, allowing for voice-controlled cocktail ordering.

The Soma Bar is available for $4,845.
