Avondale restaurants had such a good experience with Eat in the Streets last month, that they are bringing it back this weekend.
Eat in the Streets was first held on July 10-11 as a way to allow patrons to enjoy food outdoors while still social distancing during the pandemic. Like last time, Forty-first Street will be closed between First and Third avenues south to allow participating restaurants to expand dining space into the street.
Eight businesses are scheduled to participate in Avondale on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15., including:
The hours for Friday will be 5 to 11 p.m. and Saturday will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“That first weekend for Eat in the Streets was a really big win for Avondale, and we are looking forward to doing it again this weekend,’’ said Taylor Lander, director of events and marketing at Avondale Brewing Co. and president of the Forest Park South Avondale Merchants Association. “The merchants are excited and appreciate the support from the city and patrons.’’
Bands will perform on the Avondale Brewing Co. stage at 7 p.m. on both nights. Earthbound will perform Friday, and Manic Vision will perform Saturday. Both performances will be free. Also, a DJ will appear on the stage at Avondale Common House on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
A mask ordinance remains in effect for the state because of COVID-19, so attendees must wear masks when not eating or drinking in the area. Customers will be able to dine at one of the outdoor tables or place an order for take-out. The event will take place rain or shine.
