OWOSSO, MI — A tea room in Owosso offers a fancy tea tradition with props to feel like true royalty.
Abiding by the Vine Tea Room, 115 E. Main St., in Owosso is a full service restaurant that specializes in tea.
The tea room offers three different options for tea experiences, including cream tea with a personal pot of tea and a scone with Devonshire cream, light tea with your own personal pot of tea and a scone with Devonshire cream and another sweet treat and full tea with a personal pot of tea served with a delicious array of savory sandwiches, sweets, and choice of soup or salad.
“The full tea is something like what the queen would take at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, something to tide her over before supper,” owner Corky Adams said.
In Great Britain, an afternoon tea with a light meal between lunch and dinner is a tradition.
When customers come in to dine, Adams said tables are decked out with fine China, fabric tablecloths and napkins.
Some of the food offerings include the Snooty Fox, a tender and juicy chicken breast grilled and topped with Applewood smoked bacon, creamy Havarti cheese, avocado, tomato, and dressed with house crafted garlic aioli between two slices of sourdough bread, house-made mac and cheese with Cavatappi pasta, a veggie wrap with tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, avocado, and spring mix with a peach dressing and stuffed crepe with two French style pancakes filled with your choice of fresh berries and Devonshire cream, dusted with powdered sugar and topped with whipped cream and syrup among other menu items.
“It’s just a tiny little place, but it’s full of love and full of excitement, because this is a dying art,” said Adams of the tea experience.
Adams said the concept centered around tea is a tradition her grandmother introduced her to when she was a child. The business owner added the experience is an homage to her grandmother, who died years ago.
“She would set the table with fine China and it was something I always loved,” Adams said. " I did it at my own home, but I had two boys so I couldn’t do it a whole lot.”
To accompany the experience, props such as hats, gloves and feather boas are available for customers to wear while they dine to truly embrace the vibes of restaurant, she added.
“It’s about taking the time to slow your roll and take it all in and do a process,” Adams explained.
