Critic Brad A. Johnson is still revealing the Best Places to Eat in Orange County in 2020 and we’ve got more of that great content to share with you in The Eat Index this week.

If you’re anxious to get out of the house for some one-on-one time with your significant other but the thought of sitting indoors still worries you a bit, there are many Orange County restaurants that have made good use of their ample outdoor space and many of them have the right amount of charm to be great picks for date night.

Top ramen 

Brad A. Johnson notes that no two bowls of ramen are alike. Broth could be light and clear or thick and creamy; noodles could be thin and straight or fat and squiggly. Old Crow Smokehouse closes 

Old Crow Smokehouse in Orange, which specialized in Chicago-style barbecue, has closed after three years. The closure was announced to fans on Facebook earlier this month. Anne Valdespino has more. Read more.

New name for a local staple 

Taqueria de Anda, one of Orange County’s go-to spots for street tacos, has rebranded locations in Anaheim, Orange and Santa Ana under the name Taqueria Hoy! The menu at those locations will also be simplified. Anne Valdespino has more. Read more.

A cookbook with perfect timing 

Amid the pandemic we could all use a little comfort. Ina Garten’s new cookbook, “Modern Comfort Food,” is full of finger foods, cocktails and desserts, all made with simplicity in mind. Anne Valdespino talks with Garten about the inspiration for the book and the recipes it contains. Read more.
