Hello from JLB: Eat and drink your way through the final days of summer - News-Press

lemperbon.blogspot.com

Summer is more conceptual than actual in Southwest Florida.

It feels like summer here all year long, minus a day or three in February. But the calendar says summer is ending soon, so let's soak up these final days as deliciously as we can.

But first: Do you subscribe? Subscribers get an all-you-can-read smorgasbord of local news, food and award-winning features stories. It all starts here.

Summer in the city

Everyone has a New York City love story. Or so the story goes. It's been a few years since I've been to the Big Apple. Sometimes it feels like eons ago, sometimes it feels like yesterday. At these Fort Myers, Naples and Cape Coral restaurants, it feels like right now, like I'm there once more, falling in love all over again. Up in smoke

Barbecue can be eaten year round. But sticky ribs and pulled-pork sandwiches certainly have a summer vibe. Sarajane Sullivan reminds us of 10 local barbecue joints, from trucks to sit-down restaurants, where smoked meats and serious sides will help you send off summer with some finger-licking goodness. Find her story in the Daily News and in The News-Press.

Tiki to me

The new Jungle Bird Tiki, a pop-up concept in south Cape Coral, offers flaming rum-infused craft cocktails, Filipino lumpia and other Pacific Rim-inspired small plates, plus the stunning courtyard patio that formerly belonged to (and will again one day) Redfish Point. Where do I sign up? Annabelle Tometich talks tiki and so much more in this week's A La Carte. Click here for The News-Press story and over here for the NDN version.

What else?

• A 50,000-square-foot farmer's market could break ground by the end of this year in Cape Coral. David Dorsey keeps us In The Know, with a sneak peek at Joe V's Farm Market. Click here for The NP story and here for a NDN link.

• Four Naples-area restaurants aced their recent health and safety inspections. Annabelle's back, with the good, bad and buggy from recent Collier restaurant reports. Find the NDN link here and The NP story here.

• Flipper's on the Bay might be the best-kept secret on Lover's Key. This hidden waterfront wonder showcases the talents of Chef Juan Cruz, along with a worldly wine list and stunning views of Estero Bay. Gina Birch takes us there in Off the Eaten Path. The News-Press link is here; find the NDN version here.

• My inbox is always an interesting place. From pho recommendations to Sanibel suggestions, here's a look at what readers have been saying in Ask JLB. NP readers, click here. Find the NDN link here.

Full? It happens to the best of us. Bookmark news-press.com/taste and naplesnews.com/entertainment/restaurants for the latest from the SWFL dining scene.
