“Eat in the Streets,” Birmingham’s outdoor dining program and block party, will return to Avondale for a third time this Friday and Saturday with new dining options and entertainment.

Crews will start to block off streets in Avondale around 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. For this installment of “Eat in the Streets," 41st Street South between First and Third avenues South, Third and Fourth avenues South, and Fourth and Fifth avenues South will be blocked off to allow patrons to sit at tables in the streets.

“Eat in the Streets” will kick off on Friday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 10:30 p.m. The hours for Sept. 12 will vary as different restaurants will start opening for lunch starting at 11 a.m. while others will open later for dinner.

Thirteen restaurants and food trucks will participate in this installment of “Eat in the Streets":

  • Avondale Common House
  • Saw’s Soul Kitchen
  • Post Office Pies
  • Avondale Brewing Co.
  • 41st Street Pub
  • Spring Street Bar and Grill
  • Travis' Chicago Style Food Truck
  • Luna Latin Cuisine/Cantina on Wheels
  • Melt
  • Fancy’s on Fifth
  • Taco Morro Loco
  • Magic Cookie Dough
  • Avondale Burger Co. food truck

While access to “Eat in the Streets” is free, Avondale Brewing Co. will charge $7 for patrons to see The Pearl at its stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night. However, access to see DJ Mark AD on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. on the brewery stage will be free.

A mask ordinance remains in effect for the state of Alabama due to COVID-19. Patrons participating in the block party will still be required to wear masks, but may remove them to eat and drink at the outdoor tables and chairs. Carryout will also be available.

The first installment of “Eat in the Streets” kicked off in Avondale in July as a way to allow patrons to support local restaurants while social distancing during COVID-19 . Since then, the program has expanded to downtown Birmingham. The City of Birmingham expects to continue “Eat in the Streets” in the fall with a new set of upcoming dates.
