"We heard about barrel-aged coffee and thought, well we have distilleries around here like Chattanooga Whiskey...we have coffee shops, we have everything we need,” says Pick. “So we reached out to Chattanooga Whiskey and got a hold of one of their barrels and we made our very first batch. Mean Mug roasted our very first batch and it just went on from there."
And they've gone on! Creating a good reputation for themselves in the Chattanooga area.
RVW’s beans are roasted at Mean Mug on Chattanooga’s north shore. If you give pause to think, why would Mean Mug, a competitor of RVW, roast for RVW? Well it’s because local businesses understand that when individual businesses do well the whole of the local business scene does well.
"If you buy our coffee, RVW Coffee, we then pay money to Mean Mug and to Chattanooga Whiskey,” Pick says. “You know, you're family friend might get a job at Mean Mug as a barista or as a distiller at Chattanooga Whiskey and then that employee will
get that money and reinvest that into Chattanooga which is where a lot of us our living, which makes our community better. It's a whole cycle of helping each other out. It's impactful when you support local business."
