MOUNT STERLING — A shop with an assortment of drinks on its menu is opening soon.
The Drink Shop, will be at 423 E. Main St., next to the Tastee Treat restaurant.
Kimberly Kestner’s parents have owned the Tastee Treat for the past seven years and she has helped out at the restaurant.
When lotus drinks started to become more popular at the Tastee Treat, Kestner decided to start her own shop with help from her husband and family.
“I thought it would be a fun idea,” she said.
The idea for the shop also involved her daughter, Kynlee. Around the time she was thinking about starting The Drink Shop, then 5-months-old Kynlee had open heart surgery to repair a congenital heart defect.
The heart in The Drink Shop’s logo is a reminder and a portion of the shop’s profits will benefit various heart health-related charities, Kestner said.
Kynlee most likely will have heart surgery again at some point in her life, Kestner said.
“When you can’t do anything, this is something that I thought we could do, give back somehow,” she said.
Between lotus drinks and other beverages on the menu, people can come in just to have a drink, Kestner said.
Lotus drinks come in many flavors, all of them fruity and sweet. The most popular drinks are strawberries and cream, fruit punch and pina colada, Kestner said.
“The possibilities are endless on what you could do with those,” she said.
The Drink Shop also will carry over other drinks from the Tastee Treat, and Kestner plans to introduce new drinks, smoothies, teas and lemonades. Some drinks will be named after community notables, such as the drink named after a school’s hornet mascot.
In the winter time, she also plans to offer warmer drinks, such as hot chocolate.
The Drink Shop is expected to open in two to three weeks. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with a walk-up option and a drive-through.
Kesterner eventually would like to offer online ordering for quick pick-up and a rewards app for customer loyalty. At some point there also will be a grand opening, she said.
