When fans of Wally Funk turn out to celebrate the newly crowned 82-year-old astronaut at the city’s parade Saturday, they can toast her with a cool drink.
Sonic, located around the corner from the parade route at 201 W. Northwest Highway, is serving a Wally Funk Sonic Blast.
What’s in it, you ask?
All of the hometown hero’s favorites: vanilla ice cream, bananas, chocolate syrup, nuts, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
The drink is half-price on Saturday, according to a city news release.
Grapevine restaurant Weinberger’s Deli is also getting in on the Funk fanfare.
The deli has named a sandwich after the astronaut: Wally Funk’s Ham Sandwich, with hot Virginia ham, Swiss cheese, tomato and “rocket sauce.”
The parade will begin at noon along Historic Main Street, and then head south on Main Street from Wall Street to Dallas Road. It will be immediately followed by “a presentation by aviation leaders, peers, Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate and Grapevine City Council,” according to a city news release.
